Gallery: Red Deer Festival 2017

On Saturday, 14 October, Brisbane said farewell to it’s favourite BYO, boutique music event, Red Deer Festival, in the picturesque, natural amphitheatre that is Mount Samson. From Aussie heavyweights like The Preatures to local loves like Shag Rock, Red Deer’s final hurrah was nothing short of extraordinary. Amidst the rain, mud and marvellous music, we stepped out in our wet weather gear to capture some of the highlights of this one-in-a-million music fiesta. Premiere: Elbury Reveal Alluring New Music Video ‘Like Sirens’

Brisbane folk band Elbury are today revealing the music video for their new single Like Sirens with the help of filmmaker Patrick Delaney, and members of the Velvet Kittens Burlesque Troupe.   The clip, which is set against rural Australian countryside, features shots of the band playing in fields, interspersed with shots of women in white draped across trees, and dancing enchantingly.   Band member Edward Buckridge says the idea for the film clip came from the band’s early talks with the director, which centred on Sirens as mystical women who lured sailors to their deaths.   “We started storyboarding ideas...

Review: Vincent & Jules’ ‘Cookies & Cream’ Series Continues To Deliver Top Notch Performances

If you haven’t had a chance to head to a Vincent & Jules event yet, I highly recommend you do. Having been to several, I can safely say I’ve never seen a bad performance at one of their shows, which is a testament both to their skills as promoters and the quality local artists they work with. Faux Bandit’s Sophomore EP ‘Flex’ Is A Win For Rock Fans

Brisbane’s Faux Bandit have released their second EP Flex. Featuring four high-energy, heavy rock tracks, the duo prove that they have found their sound, and it’s a great one! The fact that the two-piece (comprising of Adam Brill and Joshua Johnson) have been playing together for years, really shows in the coherence of their sophomore release. Full of tongue-in-cheek lyrics and song titles – such as Is MDMA Vegan? and Freestyle At The Geebung RSL – the band are unafraid to show they have a sense of humour. There’s something for every rock fan in this release. Whether you’re...

Greshka Unite Feuding Genres

Brisbane band Greshka are a bit difficult to tie to a genre, and that’s exactly how they like it! Forming in 2008 after meeting each other on Gumtree, the band consists of a variety of musicians – from those who play “ole fashun klezmer and Balkan” to band leader Andre Bonetti’s self-described “white-boy-gypsy.” Their sound has developed over time, in a way that Andre says is both authentic and novel at the same time. “Our music is authentic in that the melodies, harmony and grooves adhere to Eastern Europe traditions.  On the other hand, due to my short attention...
