From musician to music journalist, and everything in between, local legend Roo, creator of music review site Roo’s Live Experience, wears many hats in support of the music industry.

After dipping her toes in numerous aspects of the music scene – organising shows, working the door at gigs, radio distribution, writing copy for bands and managing all aspects of her own music career – Roo launched her flagship site Roo’s Live Experience in 2016.

Roo’s Live Experience is an extension of my enthusiasm for watching live, original music. It started as an avenue to shout about awesome live music and aims to encourage people to go to more shows,” said Roo.

Throughout Roo’s Live Experience’s inaugural year, Roo has witnessed amazing performances by brilliant musicians of all styles, and met incredible people who are also involved in the scene. She describes the music coming out of Brisbane as “amazing and varied” and says the supportive and open-minded nature of the local music community makes it unique.

“There is a fighting spirit in the Brisbane music community; as a city, we’re known for standing up for our love of live music.”

Having worked intimately in the Brisbane music scene for the past year, Roo says supporting live, original music is imperative to keeping the heart of the community beating.

“Live music is a meeting place for thought, communication, ideas, and feelings about our humanity and society in general. As an industry and community, we can support the live music scene by shouting about it, embracing it and lending a hand when needed.”

Roo will be doing just that by putting on a show of epic proportions to celebrate Roo’s Live Experiences first birthday on 20 May. The show features an entirely local line-up, including punksters Being Jane Lane, hard rockers Baltimore Gun Club and pop love Ellie Jane, with 100 per cent of the entry price going directly to the artists.

“The eight acts performing at this party are all musicians who have moved me in a big way at their shows. While they vary in style, they all have something very special to offer. I can’t wait to see them put on a great show.”

Put your feet where your passion leads, and show your support for Roo and the live music scene by getting along to Roo’s Live Experience’s First Birthday Show at New Globe Theatre on 20 May. All event information available HERE.
