Live Review: Vincent & Jules Unearth Jewels At Fifth Cookies & Cream Series

Vincent & Jules always manage to choose fantastic bands for their shows, and last week’s Cookies & Cream at the zoo on Friday, 15 June was no different! Opening the night was the dynamic duo Pinion. With energetic drums (plus the drummer rocking a sick reverse mohawk) and a guitar and vocals combo that filled the space so well you forgot you were listening to a two-piece, Pinion proved to be a stellar start to the show. Next up was Borodino – a psychedelic grunge five-piece who had the whole crowd bopping and swaying along to their melodic keys...

Review: Mayhem For Mary Sign Off With ‘Greatest Hits’ Album

Brisbane groove rockers Mayhem For Mary may be taking an indefinite hiatus this year, but don’t despair, they’re gifting us their Greatest Hits album before they go. Filled with rambunctious energy, Greatest Hits is packed with aggressively upbeat jams that have the feeling of a rural American dive bar before a brawl breaks out. The album doesn’t pause for even a moment to let you catch your breath, with each song bringing its own unique liveliness to the mix. Creep has some cool bass slides, which set an eerie undertone as the distorted vocals sing “I’m writing your name...

Premiere: Elbury Reveal Alluring New Music Video ‘Like Sirens’

Brisbane folk band Elbury are today revealing the music video for their new single Like Sirens with the help of filmmaker Patrick Delaney, and members of the Velvet Kittens Burlesque Troupe.   The clip, which is set against rural Australian countryside, features shots of the band playing in fields, interspersed with shots of women in white draped across trees, and dancing enchantingly.   Band member Edward Buckridge says the idea for the film clip came from the band’s early talks with the director, which centred on Sirens as mystical women who lured sailors to their deaths.   “We started storyboarding ideas...

Review: Vincent & Jules’ ‘Cookies & Cream’ Series Continues To Deliver Top Notch Performances

If you haven’t had a chance to head to a Vincent & Jules event yet, I highly recommend you do. Having been to several, I can safely say I’ve never seen a bad performance at one of their shows, which is a testament both to their skills as promoters and the quality local artists they work with. April’s Cookies & Cream instalment at The Zoo, just over a week ago, was no exception. He Danced Ivy kicked off the night, filling the room with so much energy, at times it felt like the roof might fly off! The four-piece’s heavy...
